The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choi Hwi-young) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President Kim Yoon-ji) announced on August 5 that they operated the Korea Pavilion at ChinaJoy 2026, held from July 31 to August 3 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, China.
ChinaJoy is China’s largest gaming exhibition, bringing together game companies from around the world seeking opportunities in the Chinese market. Held under the theme “Enjoy AI Together,” this year’s event attracted approximately 900 companies from 39 countries and regions.
This year, the Korea Pavilion featured 10 small and medium-sized Korean game developers showcasing titles across a wide range of genres and platforms. The participating titles were ▲ Nanali Studios’ Forest Island ▲ NANU Company’s Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos ▲ Banjiha Games’ FAKEBOOK ▲ Studio BBB’s MONOWAVE ▲ Ableton’s Guns and Dragons ▲ ACTGames’ Hello Kitty My Dream Store ▲ NDEV Games’ Fatal Claw ▲ Wayway’s Akseon ▲ QueseraGames’ KALPA: Cosmic Symphony and ▲ HYPERCENT’s Backroom Cleaners.
KOCCA provided dedicated game demo and on-site event spaces for each participating company, allowing visitors to experience the games firsthand and interact directly with their developers. The agency also partnered with local gaming influencers for livestreams showcasing Korean titles to Chinese audiences. In addition, business meetings with local distributors and investors were arranged to help turn the companies’ participation into tangible export opportunities.
Game demonstration content will remain available after the exhibition through Chinese video platform Bilibili, enabling Korean developers to maintain engagement with local players beyond the event.
Over the four-day event, approximately 30,000 visitors came to the Korea Pavilion and played the participating Korean games. Despite ChinaJoy being primarily a business-to-consumer (B2C) exhibition, participating companies also held a total of 114 business consultations with potential partners, including local publishers and investors, representing approximately USD 12 million in potential business opportunities.
Ahead of the exhibition, three participating Korean companies also took part in the China International Game Developers Conference (CIGDC) on July 30. There, they connected with major game developers from China, Japan, Europe, and North America to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
Dae-seop So, a manager at ACTGames, said the company received strong engagement and interest at the Korea Pavilion while also surpassing 3 million pre-registrations in China.
“Alongside the high level of participation and interest we saw at the Korea Pavilion, we have recorded more than 3 million pre-registrations in China and are actively engaged in business discussions as we work toward launching the game in the Chinese market within this year,” So said. “Building on our participation at ChinaJoy, we will further refine the game for the Chinese market based on our understanding of the local distribution landscape and feedback from Chinese players.”
Sung-jun Kim, Head of KOCCA’s Game & Emerging Technology Division, said the Korea Pavilion provided an important opportunity for Korean game companies to present their titles directly to Chinese players and gauge the market response firsthand. “We made extensive efforts to ensure that participation in ChinaJoy would lead to tangible results by expanding player engagement, including increases in Steam wishlists, pre-registrations, downloads, and interest on social media,” Kim said. “KOCCA will continue to serve as a strong partner for Korean game companies expanding overseas, helping them create more opportunities in global markets.”
KOCCA plans to continue supporting the global expansion of Korean games by operating Korea Pavilions at major international gaming exhibitions throughout the year, including Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, in August; Tokyo Game Show (TGS) in Japan in September; and Brazil Game Show (BGS) in Brazil and gamescom asia in Thailand in October.
