The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) operated the Korea Pavilion at ChinaJoy 2026, held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, China, from July 31 to August 3.
ChinaJoy is China’s largest gaming exhibition, bringing together game companies from around the world seeking opportunities to enter and expand in the Chinese market. This year’s event, held under the theme “Enjoy with AI” (与AI同游), featured a B2B exhibition from July 31 to August 2 and a business-to-consumer (B2C) exhibition from July 31 to August 3. Around 900 companies from 39 countries and regions participated across more than 140,000 square meters of exhibition space.
This year’s Korea Pavilion featured 10 small and mid-sized Korean game developers: NANALI Studios with Forest Island; NANOO COMPANY with Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos; Banjiha Games with Fakebook; Studio BBB with MONOWAVE; Averton with Guns & Dragons; ACTGames with Hello Kitty My Dream Store; Endev Games with Fatal Claw; WAYWAY with AKSUN; QueseraGames with KALPA: Cosmic Symphony; and HYPERCENT with Backrooms Cleaners.
KOCCA provided dedicated demo and event spaces for each participating company, allowing visitors to experience the games firsthand and interact directly with their developers. The agency also worked with local gaming influencers on livestreams to showcase the appeal of Korean games, while facilitating business meetings with Chinese distributors and investors to help translate exposure into potential export opportunities. Gameplay and demo content from the event will also be made available on Chinese video platform Bilibili after the exhibition.
Approximately 30,000 visitors came to the Korea Pavilion over the four-day event. In addition, participating companies held a total of 114 business consultations with local publishers, investors, and other industry representatives, with the discussions representing approximately $12 million in potential business value.
Ahead of the main event, three participating Korean companies also took part in the China International Game Developers Conference (CIGDC) on July 30. There, they networked with major game developers from China, Japan, Europe, and North America and explored opportunities for future collaboration. HYPERCENT also presented its games and business plans during the conference.
Dae-seop So, a director at ACTGames, said, “In addition to the strong turnout and interest we saw at the Korea Pavilion, the game has surpassed 3 million pre-registrations in China. We are currently engaged in active business discussions as we work toward launching in the Chinese market within this year.”
“Building on our participation at ChinaJoy, we plan to further refine the game for the Chinese market based on our understanding of the local distribution landscape and feedback from Chinese players,” he added.
Sung-jun KIM, Head of KOCCA’s Game & Emerging Technology Division, said, “The Korea Pavilion at ChinaJoy has become an important point of contact where Korean game companies can showcase their titles directly to Chinese players and gauge the market response firsthand.”
“We put considerable effort into ensuring that participation translated into tangible results, including growth in Steam wishlists, pre-registrations, downloads, and social media interest, ultimately helping participating companies expand their player bases,” Kim said. “Going forward, KOCCA will continue to serve as a reliable partner for Korean game companies seeking to create more opportunities in global markets.”
KOCCA will continue operating Korea Pavilions at major international gaming exhibitions throughout the year, including Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, in August; Tokyo Game Show (TGS) in September; and Brazil Game Show (BGS) and Gamescom Asia in Thailand in October.
